Autumn's Arrival: A Season of Artistic Inspiration
dawAutumn's Arrival: A Season of Artistic Inspiration
Autumn has arrived when the days grow shorter and the leaves begin to fall. For an artist, this time of year is incredibly exciting—a period of visual transformation as the landscape undergoes a complete colour shift. It’s no wonder that great masters like Monet were inspired to paint the same spot repeatedly as the seasons changed.
The pheasant I’m currently working on is a reflection of how the rich browns, yellows, and reds of autumn have influenced me. This time of year also encourages me to paint animals, as I often spot woodland creatures hunting and gathering, preparing for the colder months ahead. I’m planning to start a piece featuring an Irish Hare next week, so stay tuned to my social media @dawncrothersartist on Instagram and Facebook for updates via my stories.

I’ve also had a few snail commissions recently, which reminded me of how much I enjoy painting these intricate creatures. It’s been a while since I painted a series of snails, and I’d forgotten how much fun it is to experiment with swirling colours. Creating those spirals can be tricky, but it's always satisfying!

School Visit
I recently had my annual visit to Greenwood Primary School, where I taught the Year 3 students how to draw snails. The class has been learning about mini-beasts, so the topic of snails and art fit perfectly. The children were incredibly imaginative, coming up with their own creative snail ideas—from pumpkin snails to star snails. It was a true workshop of the imagination, where we not only brushed up on our drawing skills but also learned about these fascinating creatures.
Painting Activity at Culloden Estate with Aspire Escape.
Another annual event for me is hosting a painting activity at the Culloden Estate for the Aspire Escape — a luxury travel company that combines work and play. It’s always a pleasure to take participants on an artistic journey, helping them to relax and unwind after a busy day of business activities. We always have a lot of fun, and it really brings the group together, creating wonderful memories.
I hope your enjoying some autumal nature walks, my two boys and Bodie my dog have me have been out hunting for conkers most evenings. My favourite thing at the minute though is a pumpkin spice cappuccino, yummy!!
